Magick-Heather McCollum
The Dragonfly Chronicles Book #1
October 5, 2010
Fantasy
Summary-
Fury and guilt assail Hauk, a fierce Viking warrior, after he allows false healers to cure his family to death. When he’s ordered to capture the Great Witch of the Woods in Northumbria, he doesn’t anticipate that his hatred for all things magick would be challenged by a long-legged beauty with sparking brown eyes.
Even with her great healing powers, Merewin’s fear of failure nearly cripples her resilient spirit. Strong wills clash as Merewin and Hauk battle their instant attraction. Can Hauk trust a healer with his remaining family and with his heart? Can Merewin conquer her own pride to love this powerful man who possesses an unacknowledged magic of his own? In the end Merewin and Hauk must put their faith in each other and in their love. For love is the only magick that can heal someone’s soul.

Review-
There’s a lot to say about Heather McCollum and her writing skills- awesome! The story it’s self is a spell with a hint of time travel, a dash of witchery and a sprinkle of evil all mixed together to form love. Heather McCollum has a vividly rich texture with the way her story is told. The main characters are strong willed stubborn individuals and each have a history not far from the others. Hauk once a husband and father of two now reduced to single father of one. Those who claimed to have a hand in healing killed his family saving only himself and his daughter.
Dalla, Hauk’s daughter has hate in her iced heart and will not stand by to let anyone enter. Merewin was taken by force by this handsome Viking which publicly has claimed as his alone. Somewhat grateful as she could not fathom being slave to someone else with not so pure intentions? Hauk and the rest of his crew take this healer back to their land far away from the place she has grown to claim as home. Merewin’s magick stones and ability to heal with the guidance of Earth’s Mother may not be enough to help the King’s diseased child as her memory was once burdened by the horrors of losing a child similar to this. Children do not understand what life is like to be able to want to live as they choose. The only thing they know is the arms of the earth mother. Fate should have it tipped in her favor as the Crones spirit guide Merewin with the help of her sister in a different time to save this child from death. Hauk and Merewin have a connection, but Hauk’s inability to release his hate for those who claim to heal will test their love for each other. Away on voyage, Dalla only despises Merewin everyday but Merewin will not allow this behavior any longer and the two kindle a mother daughter relationship like no other. As both have lost their own mother, Merewin and Dalla embrace each other leaving now the only embrace left of Merewin and Hauk. This plot has up’s and down’s and in the end your finally able to see the power of love win the battle of evil. Heather McCollum is a brilliant writer and I cannot wait to read what she next has in store.
